Commission Members

This page presents a list of the nineteen members of the Accrediting Commission and the Commission staff.

 

Mr. Michael Rota
Chair

Mr. Rota was selected to represent the seven community colleges of the University of Hawai`i.  Mr. Rota is the Chancellor of Honolulu Community Community College.  Mr. Rota began his service on the Commission July 1, 2004.

 

Dr. Sherrill Amador
Vice Chair

Dr. Amador was selected to the Commission as a public member.  Dr. Amador recently retired as President/Superintendent of Palomar College.  Dr. Amador began her service on the Commission July 1, 2004.

 

Ms. Holly Beernink

Ms. Beernink was selected to represent independent institutions on the Commission.  She is the Director of Academic Affairs and Accreditation Liaison Officer at Western Career College.  Ms. Beernink began her service on the Commission July 1, 2005

 

Dr. Joseph Bielanski, Jr.

Dr. Bielanski was selected to serve as a faculty member on the Commission.  He is the Past President of the Academic Senate of the Peralta Community College District, a position he held from 2004 to 2009, and currently Coordinator for Institutional Effectiveness at the district office and articulation officer at Berkeley City College. Dr Bielanski began his service on the Commission July 1, 2010.

 

Mr. Steve Bruckman

Mr. Bruckman was selected to represent the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office where he serves as Executive Vice Chancellor, Operations and General Council.  Mr. Bruckman began his service on the Commission July 1, 2005.

 

Mr. Chris Constantin

Mr. Constantin was selected to serve as a public member of the Commission. He is currently Audit Manager with the Office of the City Auditor in San Diego. Mr. Constantin began his service on the Commission July 1, 2010.

 

Dr. Gary Davis

Dr. Davis was selected to represent the Accrediting Commission for Schools of WASC. He held numerous positions in the Oxnard High School District from 1965 to 2005 when he retired from the position as Superintendent. Dr. Davis began his service on the Commission July 1, 2010.

 

Ms. Lurelean Gaines

Ms. Gaines was selected to represent faculty on the Commission.  She is chair of the Department of Nursing at East Los Angeles College.  Professor Gaines began her service on the Commission July 1, 2001.

 

Dr. Frank Gornick

Dr. Gornick was selected to represent administration on the Commission.  He is the Chancellor of the West Hills Community College District.  Dr. Gornick began his service on the Commission July 1, 2009.

 

Dr. Louanne Kennedy

Dr. Kennedy was selected to represent the Accreditation Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities/WASC. She is the Emeritus Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs at the California State University, Northridge. Dr. Kennedy began her service on the Commission July 1, 2005.

 

Dr. Steven Kinsella

Dr. Kinsella was selected to represent administration on the Commission.  He is currently the Superintendent/President of Gavilan College.  Dr. Kinsella began his service on the Commission in January 2010.

 

Ms. Virginia May

Ms. May was selected to represent faculty on the Commission.  She is a Professor of Mathematics and Statistics at Sacramento City College.  Ms. May began her service on the Commission July 1, 2009.

 

Mr. Charles Meng

Mr. Meng was selected to serve as a public member of the Commission. Mr. Meng will begin his service on the Commission January 1, 2011.

 

Ms. Susan Murata

Ms. Murata was selected to serve faculty on the Commission.  She is Head Librarian of the Kapi’olani Community College, Hawaii. Ms Murata began her service on the Commission July 1, 2010.

 

Dr. John S. Nixon

Dr. John S. Nixon was selected to represent administration on the Commission.  He is the President/CEO of Mt. San Antonio College.  Dr. Nixon began his service on the Commission July 1, 2008.

 

Dr. Marie Smith

Dr. Smith was selected to serve as a public member on the Commission.  She recently retired as Vice Chancellor of Education and Technology of the Los Rios Community College District.  Dr. Smith began her service on the Commission July 1, 2007.

 

Ms. Elieene Tejada

Ms. Tejada was selected to represent faculty on the Commission.  She is Professor of Language and Developmental Studies at Napa Valley College.  Ms. Tejada began her service on the Commission July 1, 2006.

 

Dr. Patrick Tellei

Dr. Patrick Tellei was selected to represent the Pacific Postsecondary Education Council on the Commission.  He is the President of Palau Community College.  Dr. Tellei began his service on the Commission July 1, 2008.

 

Dr. Sharon Whitehurst-Payne

Dr. Sharon Whitehurst-Payne was selected to serve as a public member of the Commission.  Dr. Whitehurst-Payne is employed by California State University, San Marcos, where she is the Clinical Practice Coordinator for Special Education Programs.  Dr. Payne began her service on the Commission July 1, 2008.
