Today, the Council of Regional Accrediting Commissions (C-RAC) announced its leadership transition. The Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE) president, Dr. Heather F. Perfetti, will become chair of the organization, and the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) president, Dr. Mac Powell, will serve as vice chair, effective July 1, 2024.

C-RAC includes seven federally-recognized accrediting commissions responsible for accrediting approximately 3,000 postsecondary, degree-granting colleges and universities in the United States, as well as internationally. C-RAC members have a shared focus on supporting higher education access and equity for students, promoting quality educational opportunities, and helping to oversee and protect more than $150 billion in taxpayer resources/ federal student aid dollars. As a council, C-RAC members meet regularly to develop strategies and resources for advancing equitable student success, collaborate with the U.S. Department of Education and federal policymakers, and engage in advocacy at the national and regional levels on behalf of member institutions and the students they serve.

Dr. Perfetti and Dr. Powell are accomplished leaders in higher education who believe that accreditation is one of the most powerful levers available to influence change and create value in higher education. Dr. Powell looks forward to supporting Dr. Perfetti in her new role as chair and advocating for the importance of accreditation in fostering high-quality education and equitable student outcomes for all of our nation’s students.
